Psychoeducational assessment

I provide psychoeducational assessment for children and adolescents. My areas of focus include learning differences, twice-exceptionality (2e), ADHD, executive functioning, autism, and giftedness. Evaluations are designed to support learning and everyday functioning. I can also provide consultation with teachers and school staff.

consultation & coaching

Understanding a child or adolescent's unique strengths, needs, and challenges and what may be getting in the way can make a meaningful difference. I work collaboratively with families to better understand what may be contributing to challenges and to develop individualized strategies and supports for home and school. My work incorporates collaborative principles including approaches informed by Dr. Ross Greene's Collaborative & Proactive Solutions model. Together we work toward creating connected and successful experiences at home and at school. I also offer consultation and supervision for educators and mental health professionals.

brief counseling & psychoeducation

I offer short-term, goal- focused counseling for children and adolescents who may benefit from support with stress, emotional regulation, self- understanding, and navigating challenges related to learning, attention, or neurodivergent needs. The focus is practical and supportive. I may also offer psychoeducational groups for children, adolescents, and parents, with a focus on social skills, executive functioning, coping strategies, and practical support for everyday challenges.

About Dr. Brooke Kish

Hello! Welcome to Heron's Nest Child Psychology & Assessment. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and a school psychologist in the state of Colorado with more than 20 years of experience working with children, adolescents, families, and educators. My career has centered around helping children and adolescents better understand how they learn, think, and experience the world—and helping families and educators understand how best to support them.  I have also provided consultation and supervision to other mental health professionals.

I earned both my doctorate and masters degrees in School Psychology and Child and Family Studies from the University of Denver in 2007. I earned my  Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rutgers University in 1998. I have worked in Colorado public schools for over fifteen years.  My experience also includes private practice, in-home treatment, as well other clinical settings.  I have received formal training from well-known psychologist Dr. Ross Greene in the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions approach, have trained schools and families in this research-based approach, and currently working on my re-certification in this approach. I have worked as a school psychologist in Denver Public Schools, Jefferson County Public Schools, and Aspen School District, serving students across all grade levels including preschool.

My experience includes child and adolescent assessment, evaluation of learning and social emotional functioning, as well as consultation regarding academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. I have experience working with students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 Plans. My counseling approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and goal-focused.  I draw from cognitive behavioral approaches and incorporate developmentally appropriate, play-based strategies, psychoeducation, and practical skill-building.

Outside of work, I enjoy running, skiing, keeping up with my teenage twins who are now navigating high school, and spending time with our two German Shorthaired Pointers.  I grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and have lived much of my adult life in northern New Jersey and in Evergreen, Colorado.  My husband and I have been part of the Evergreen community for more than 20 years, and Colorado has long felt like home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance? This is a private-pay practice. Payment may be made by credit card, cash, or check and is due at the time of service.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much counseling, consultation, or assessment sessions will cost.

What is a Good Faith Estimate? Under the law, health care providers need to give patients or clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. It states to make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Colorado Division of Insurance at 303-894-7490 or 1-800-930-3745.
